Hi! I love Halloween and the Carnival (in my country is a big deal, in some places they do it like in Brazil). This year the carnival is in February, so I had to start a few months early cause it’s the first time I used this type of materials. I wanted to make sure that I had it all finished before I posted it online. So, let’s get down to business…

Tools: Materials:
Scissors Craft foam 1cm and 1 or 2mm, preferably back
Folding clips Burgundy paint
Pencil Gold paint
Pen Black paint
Masking tape Grey paint
Paint brush Rope
Printer Sponge
Free templates Plastic bottle
Contact cement Sewing elastic
Measuring tape Tin foil
Duct tape
Cling film
Marker
Soldering iron
Heat gun
Steam iron
Needle
Blue sewing thread

For the corset..

To make the corset we will start by making a template of our body. To do that we will need cling film and duct tape.

Start by wrapping the cling film around your upper body and then use the duct tape to cover it up. Using a marker, we will draw 6 lines: one in the middle, one in the back, 2 on both sides left and right and one on each breast.  Don’t forget to put numbers on each piece, so you know where to glue them. You should have something like this:

I cannot give you the templates on this one cause physically we are different, so you’ll have to do this one alone.

After making the corset template, cut it out (need another person to help you cut) and then pass it to 1cm craft foam.

Don’t forget to make a cut in V shape in the middle of the breast form to make it round, like this:

After cutting the pieces, it’s time to start to glue them together and you should have something like this:

After gluing them all together, it’s time to start to put the details (Corset).

This is how they should be (notice that I have two more pieces on each side just cause I screwed it up and I had to add more foam).

Before making the holes in the corset, I wanted to make sure that it would not fall off when I was using it, so to make it stronger I clipped two strips of a plastic bottle and glued them with contact cement, then I marked where I wanted the laces to go up. With a soldering iron, I made 6 holes. If you don’t have one you can heat the end of a screwdriver and make the holes.

The next step is the funny part, we paint it 😀 😀 😀 I didn’t have black foam so I used the ones I had at home (blue and white), before painting it with burgundy paint, I had to paint it black first, because the burgundy paint would not stick well and I could see little blue and white parts on the foam. If you have black foam you can skip this step.

27145241_10209966175665112_2119499191_o

It should be something like this. Notice that the only gold piece is the one in the middle. I also had to add two other breast pieces because I could see inside the corset.

If you can’t find burgundy paint, you can always mix together red and black paint till you have the desired colour. I also used a sponge instead of a paint brush because the brush left marks on the foam.

Now we need to make the belt and the chest parts. Both templates are available inside the corset pdf template. You can adjust them to your size.

Belt

For the belt, just follow the numbers. All the pieces are glue together in the first piece, so glue the piece 3 above 1, 2 in the end and 4 above them all. The same goes to the back of the belt. First 5, then 6 on top and 7 in the end of 5.

Chest piece..

I was very frustrated when I was making the chest part, because the first template I made was not fitting in the corset and I was close to quit the costume. But then I thought “there must be something online to help me with this piece”. So, I went online and found a very useful and lifesaving image of the eagle for the chest.

27145103_10209966557674662_1390897618_o.png

And this is the template I used to make the eagle (also in the template of the corset)

So, to make this piece, first we have to tape the eagle (it was too big to scan in A4 sheet), then copy the shape to foam and start to glue them just like you glued the belt.

All the pieces are glue together in the eagle piece, glue piece 2 above 1, 3 in the end and 4 above piece 2. For the back, you glue them like you glued the belt. (I realized that I didn’t wrote the numbers on the template, but if you do what you did for the belt, then you should be fine).

After painting it gold and grey, you should have something like this:

Skirt

And the hard part is done. Now we move on to something easier like the skirt.

Template: Skirt

To make the skirt, I made 6 different pieces, 3 equal pieces to the front and both sides and a larger one to the back, which are the first and second page of the skirt templates. To make the back side of the skirt you have to tape them together before copying it to the foam (it was too large to A4 sheet). So first tape together page 2, 3 and 4.

Then I made 3 equal stripes which will be in front of the other 3 pieces and a larger one to the back which you also have to tape for obvious reasons. I accidently deleted the pictures I had so I made a sketch of how it’s supposed to be.

Then tape together the last 2 pieces, they will be on both the sides and above all pieces.

Before starting to sew all the parts, we need it to look like leather. For that we will need tin foil and a steam iron. I made a video to simplify things.

After that we want to sew them all together, so we’ll need sewing elastic, a needle, blue sewing thread and folding clips to help hold the sewing elastic to the pieces. I also sewed two little pieces of Velcro in the elastic so I could close the skirt. To finish the skirt all you need is to paint gold little strips in the end of the skirt. If you did everything right, you should have something like this:

Et voila!! Congratulations you had a Wonder Woman Skirt 😀

Moving on to the shin, knee pads and shoe pieces

This part can be tricky, you need to pay attention in his part cause its not easy to explain.

The first thing we are going to do is tape together page 1 with page 2, page 3 with page 4 and page 5 with page 6. To make the shin we glue A1, A3 and A2; B1, B3 and B2; F1, F3 and F2(these are painted in burgundy) and A4, B4 and F4 are painted in gold.

To make the knee parts, we glue together H1, H3 and H2 and H4 on top of it. Then we glue G1 and G2 on top of G1 (don’t forget to glue G1 first). After that we need to glue these parts together (H on top of G). All painted in gold.

To make the shoe pieces, we do the same thing. Glue together C1, C3 and C2; D1, D3 and D2; E1, E3 and E2. (all painted in burgundy), C4, D4 and E4 are painted in gold.

**A4, B4, C4, D4, E4, F4, G2, H4 are central strips and are glued in the middle. Example: A1+A3+A2 glue A4 in A3

My advice is paint them before gluing them, or else you will have a mess. I glued first and then painted, needless to say that I had to repaint everything, cause I had gold paint on top of burgundy paint.

27144546_10209972828631432_457554626_o.jpg

This is how it’s supposed to be.

Now the last thing we need to do is attach them all together. To do that I used Velcro and I had to make some stripes. To the shins and knee-pads make one big stripe according to your shin measure. In the knee pieces glue Velcro on both sides of the H piece.

In the shoe pieces the only piece that needs Velcro is the C (this one is going to cover the shoe laces). We also need those lateral locks of the shoe on the template, glue each of them with Velcro and do the same thing to the shoe. Below, I show a series of imagens to help you attach it together.

Note: Because I didn’t want to screw up by boots, what I did was to cover them with cling film and then used  little pieces of journal and glued with white glue until it was all covered up, once it was dry I painted in gold and then glued with contact cement the pieces E and D (I didn’t needed them to open, so I glued them on the shoe).

Accessories

Template: Accessories

To make the bracers just cut the edges of the template, place it on the foam and trace around it. I advise to use a pen and a craft foam that’s not black, to be easier to trace everything in the foam. After you’ve done that, cut the foam and paint it black, it doesn’t have to be pretty, make it nice and thick with lots of brush lines, because we’re going to need those lines to the next part.

To make the bracers look metallic we’re going to use a soft brush and some silver paint, wipe off most of the paint in a tower, go lightly over the bracer and you’re going to start to see the texture of the black paint.

After that, place the template over the foam and start to trace the lines into the foam, you’re going to need patience because it will not stick the first time you’ll draw a line.

After tracing all the lines into the foam (a pencil works just fine to trace the lines), we need to paint it gold, I’ll show you where to paint in the image below.

To attach them together I made 4 holes (see those 4 like oval shapes? Cut it off) and then I used sewing elastic to seal the bracers. And voila.

The next item on the list is the armband. To do that I used the same method of the bracers. Cut the edges of the template, place it on the foam and trace around it, then cut the foam and paint it black. After that, paint it all gold and then draw the interior lines with a pencil or a black pen. To attach one end to another I used sewing elastic (I advise to sew it on the foam, I thought that with glue it would pop off). And you’re done.

Moving on to the GOD KILLER!!!!!

So, we’re going to need a cardboard, a 27cm pvc pipe and a 21cm of a wood stick, I used a tube from the plastic bags from the grocery store.

After tapping the sword, we’re going to trace it to the craft foam, remember to  increase the border by 1 centimeter so you can glue it later and remember also to draw the lines inside the hilt so later you can glue the dragons to cover the sword. To make it look real I made some inscriptions in the blade (also in the template).

To make the hilt, I used a 27 cm pvc pipe and a 21cm wood stick. With a marker I traced the 6cm diference in the pcv pipe, because those 6cm are going to be inside the blade to support it. After that I used small pieces of foam and glued them to the pcv pipe to make it thicker so when I placed the wood stick inside it could hold itself without falling apart. Then I used a strip of foam to cover it up and with the soldering iron I made a few small dots.

To make the dragons cut the small pieces and pass it to the foam, then just glue them into the big dragon in order. Remember to make 2 pieces of each.

To finish it, just glue the dragons into the hilt. And you should have something like the images below.

The shield..

To make the shield I used a 1cm craft foam, measured diagonally both ways to find the center point, attached a paper pin at one end of the string in the craft foam and the pen in the other end, (in my case the string has 25cm long, but you can make it smaller) stretch the string and make a circle. To make it round I used a heat gun, I heated the ends till it started to have the shape I wanted. After that I copied the pattern pieces to the foam and glued them to the shield.

Once again, because my foam was not black I had to paint it all black and only after I painted in gold. To make the handles, I made 2 strips out of foam and glued them in the back of the shield. It looks like this:

Tactical Suspender

To make the tactical suspender, we need to make 6 strips of 1mm foam with 3 cm large. To the front, cut one stripe with 42cm and another with 26cm. To the back cut one stripe with 36cm and another with 30cm. With contact cement glue them together (2 stripes in the front and 2 stripes in the back) and you’ll have one big stripe with 68cm and another with 66cm. The patches should be in the center of our body.

Then we need to cut the details, glue them with contact cement and paint it gold with a sponge. Use Velcro to attach the one with the locker (that one will hold the lasso.)

27537123_10210039900868196_1850555494_o.jpg

After that we need to make 2 more stripes (remember I say 6 stripes above), one with 26 cm and another with 40cm because we need to cover the patch that we made earlier. Glue the stripe with 26 cm in the front patch and the other one in the patch of the back. Now we have 2 loose ends that we’re going to glue with Velcro, to make it easier to wear after. Glue the small piece in the chest, one of the details on the left and the one with the locker on the right in one of the stripes, so you can open and wear it later.

Now we just need the lasso (I used sisal rope).

Tiara

To make wonder woman’s tiara just follow the letters. After drawing it in the foam and cutting the pieces glue them together: B on top of A, C on top of B, D on top of B (over C) and the same goes to the E piece. To the middle, glue together G, H and I and then glue them in the middle of the tiara.

To hold the tiara I sewed the ends together with sewing elastic.

And voila…

PS: It was very cold so I had to leave my coat on 😦
