A dream is a succession of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations that usually occur involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep.
Oneirology is the scientific term that studies dreams. Tries to give meaning and searches for a hidden message.
People are more likely to remember the dream if they are awakened during the REM phase and sometimes it is mistaken for thoughts. A dream can last 20 to 30 minutes or it can be just a few seconds. In average a person can have 3 to 5 dreams and sometimes more but they are quickly forgotten.
Since my senior year I like Freud. I like to know all his theories about how the human brain works in terms of growing up and how he gave meaning to dreams… He said that our dreams reveal hidden desires and emotions that are directly related with repressed childhood memories or obsessions. He believed that every dream, represented the release of sexual tension. But then again, everything he studied had sexual content so I’m not sure of how it applies to everything he said because not everything is about sex…..
Of course we all choose to believe in what we want. I choose to believe that dreams are a way of our unconscious mind to warn us about something. To let us see what we are not seeing with our eyes open. Sometimes our dreams have meaning. As much stupid and nonsense they might be.
So I decided to create this column to, once a week, share some of my stupid dreams and what I think they might mean. I hope you like it.
